Right at the start of the last flying season, our itinery took us to Mendoza, Argentina. En route, we flew over the Río de la Plata and the Paraná River. We continued on to Santa Fe, where we cleared customs and still had time to enjoy this wonderful city. As is often the case, we met a local pilot who took us on a private tour of the city that evening—simply delightful! Next, we headed to Córdoba, a charming university city nestled at the foot of an impressive mountain range. After that, we continued across the Argentinian pampas for hours, passing salt flats along the way, until we reached Mendoza, the largest wine-growing region in South America, where over 70% of Argentinian wine is produced.
Other tours took us through the much smaller Uruguay, where the flying distances are shorter, but the variety is all the greater. With its Atlantic coast, rivers with huge volumes of water, wine-growing regions, historical sites, large estancias, art and culture including tango and gaucho life, Uruguay offers all this and much more.
